Rob Donoghue -- I hear you love bags.

Rob Donoghue -- I hear you love bags.

If you've got the time, advice would be appreciated.

My LL Bean messenger bag is, I think, a version they are no longer making. Near as I can tell, they only have a smaller version: www.llbean.com/llb/shop/85743?feat=845-GN3&page=bean-s-messenger-bag-medium

After several years, my bag is giving up the ghost. Tears & dirt, and a whole lot of fabric fraying. I'll want to replace it in the next year.

This is my everyday bag. I take it to work, to game night. It holds laptops and gaming supplies and meds without complaint.

Have any suggestions for replacements? Ideally, I want an identical version of what I have now, including being red and from LL Bean. I realize this may be impossible.

  1. I was not lead astray!

Apparently color is important to me. I had thought the timbuk2 bags only you change the strap color, but NO. They have multiple color variables, each one independently adjustable.

But wait. The Tumbuk2 bags seem to not have front pockets. I guess that's not in the new Bean one, either. Mine's got a couple bags on the overhanging bit. The most front is great for pencils and med, the second is great for books. Let's me get to stuff on the go without opening up the main part. Does no one have a bag with compartments on the overhanging part?

Travel is definitely a thing, but I usually just take my duffel. I'm rarely on work trips, and Dreamation is driving distance.

The redoxx bag is def a TANK. I think it is overkill for my needs, but fun to look at.

  2. timbuk2.com - Custom Bags & Messenger Bags - Design Your Own Backpack | Timbuk2 Bags this one has two side entry pockets with zippers available without opening the flap, a big one at the back and a small one at the front.

  3. My Timbuk2 messenger is sturdy and well laid out but a little tippy, if that's an issue for you. I got the model without velcro and with hook clips so I could get at pencils without a rrrrip or a cachunk sound.

  4. I just looked and it looks like they've redesigned the Command, my model, so it might be less tippy. Mine has an easy access zipper and where I keep travel documents. The Commute has a zipper pouch on the front flap.

The Command does have a neat structure that lets you run it through TSA without getting your laptop out, but it looks like the Commute has that now too. (Mine is probably about five years old and at the time the Command was the only one I could find. I don't adore this bag, but it's very solid and works well and is my go to personal item bag.)

  5. Looks great! And jansport is a really reliable brand - they're not flashy, but they make consistently good stuff.
