I've been given the letter..... D (by Misha B )

I've been given the letter.....  D (by Misha B )

Something I hate.... dementia, and the loss of self found when individuals lose their minds.

Something I love...democracy in action; that wikipedia over Britannica proves the wisdom of a million (with, perhaps, a reduced capacity panel of oligarchs to help with the worst disagreements) is stronger than the wisdom of oligarchs.

Somewhere I've been... Delaware. I've camped there several years running, and totally forgot until now.

Somewhere I'd like to go... Denmark? Sure.

Someone I know...  Dianne Harris

And DC is closed tomorrow.

And DC is closed tomorrow.

This is both a positive and a negative. Positive: My office is closed, and I am to work from home. No commute!

Negative: I have nothing to do.

So ... snow day?

Also, you poor, poor bastards going to NJ in three days. Good luck.

I often have discussions about memory. One useful thing I learned in grad school: our memories don't work so well.

I often have discussions about memory. One useful thing I learned in grad school: our memories don't work so well.

Simply knowing this has been problematic: When a lawyer asked what i remembered of an event, I express skepticism of my own memory. When I look at memories that are ten years old (like, say, the day the towers fell), I don't trust the memories.

Other people do. And, I've known for a while that they shouldn't.

Now there's a New Yorker piece. Hooray!

MotW may be my favorite game the run.

MotW may be my favorite game the run.

And now I find there are revised sheets, and the book is in my FLGS.

Time to upgrade. The new sheets look amazing -- and there are new classes!

Note for apartment dwellers: If your internet is slow, try changing the wireless channel. We went from 0.5 Mbps to 21 when we changed to a less used frequency. We're supposed to have 25, but this is close enough.

I won't be able to make it to Dreamation. Have some awesome indie games without me, internet. And I'll see you for Camp Nerdly.

Those that do a lot of two sided sheets: I've got a gaming-related product that I want folded up on itself to form a booklet (yes, like monsterhearts. But simpler)

ANYWAY, I tried a test print run. The inside parts are upside down. I'm using google docs -- is there a setting I'm missing to change this?

Don't get me wrong, I'm pretty sure uber is vile.

Don't get me wrong, I'm pretty sure uber is vile. Doxxing isn't ok, publishing booty calls isn't ok.  But when an article criticizing uber says "That means predictable and affordable taxi fares could become a thing of the past.", I laugh.

And laugh. And laugh.

From my experience, use of the taxi industry was solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short.

That is: it was hard if not impossible to get a taxi, i never knew if i was being ripped off, taxi drivers don't know where they are going, they lie about not accepting credit cards, and I avoided them.

Uber, despite its many faults, generally provides a low-cost service that shows up at my door within 3 minutes.

If anything, uber has created the first predictable and affordable non-driving option. Taxis fail on both axes. Metro isn't predictable. On the weekend, I've left with my feet, bikes, and cajoling friends with cars.

And now, uber drivers.

I use uber for small hops -- basically the last mile where metro doesn't go -- and that makes all the difference. Its relatively cheap, allows me to go anywhere without spending social capital asking a friend to pick me up, and is there when I am.

And taxis were never able to solve this problem.
Background check performed by the new company came back clean. This makes me more happy than makes sense.
