I have to admit I'm running out of steam on Endless Sky. I've backtracked to work through the Free Worlds content (and see if that opens up anything of interest), but I'm having to radically trim back my fleet in order to not accidentally vaporize the plot points.
Maybe I'll go board the heck out of a lot of Kornath Raiders, and see if I can equip my fleet with those sparkly jump drives. Bet the raiders self-destruct, though.
Tony Lower-Basch Yeah. I picked up a half dozen or so warp drives towards the end of the Star Wars plot. Still, I've got everything except my flagship parked in human space while I gallavant, cloaked and awesome.
I think you are further along than I am. I'm hoping there's some sort of plot out here. I've only just found command modules, so shoudl be able to start raiding the korath machines soon.
Not the raiders. And not the world ships. Maybe someday. For now, I'm gonna be finding new life and new civilizations.
I've been wondering how different the tutorial would be with different ship types.
I started as a shuttle. I wonder what you'd be told if you took the truck or interceptor. And how that impacts the rest of the game.
In the end, I wound up doing mostly monster hunting because it paid so well. or, rather, I did mostly capturing of pirates and selling their ships. I imagine that's where everyone winds up?
Yeah, even without contracts to hunt them, the sheer mind-boggling profit of taking over pirate ships makes it the blazing rocket-fuel that transitions you from mid-game (i.e. until you buy a Bactrian and load it with mercenaries armed with laser rifles and frag grenades) to the economic end-game (i.e. when you support that flagship with a dozen Leviathans, and can therefore instantly vaporize anything in the original section of the galaxy, enabling you to pick up whatever ships happen to remain limping and disabled after your bleak passage through their ranks).
I never did see any contracts that would justify a convoy that included (for instance) freighters. Where are the colonies that need you to transport a thousand people, or ten thousand tons of cargo?
> Bactrian and load it with mercenaries armed with laser rifles and frag grenades Agreed. That's exactly my flagship, with the weapons and engines upgraded. I'm a huge fan of the instantaneous weapons, so its electron guns all around.
> dozen Leviathans I went with Falcons until I stole a few Cruisers, then Behemoths when available. Which I wanted as I could easily buy a few upgrades and have them all have the same specifications.
> transport a thousand people, or ten thousand tons of cargo Agreed. I'm hopeful I'll find it beyond human space, or that when I come back to human space they'll ask me to set up entirely new colonies.
I was also really amused at some of the end game of the rebellion plot, where it is assumed the Navy is the heavy hitters. Then my flag + 11 dreadnoughts shows up, and I'm busy boarding and stealing hyper drives before the Navy shows up.
I read there is more out there beyond human space.
I wonder if I start as a space truck, will there be larger freighter jobs? Or, is the game designed for the economics to always favor anti-piracy activities?

Tony Lower-Basch Have you played it through more than once?
ReplyDeleteUh ... not yet. Why?
