Hardhholder, Waterbearer, Maestro D, and a Hocus are all on a spaceship.
Tell me about that spaceship.
[ Assume each has whatever they need for their playbook: Hardhholder has civilians and a gang, water-bearer has a Source, Maestro D has an establishment, Hocus has a cult. All on the same ship. ]

Pleasure cruise for the rich and trendy
ReplyDeleteTell me how you got that, David Rothfeder?
ReplyDeleteThe maestro d obviously has a bar or brothel on the ship. The hocus has a cult of trends. The hard holder runs the actual crew and the water bearer is the engineer in charge of life support.
ReplyDeleteThe Maestro D doesn't always have to run a bar or a whorehouse. It could be a hole in the walk pizza joint or a waffle shop. It just had to be somewhere people get together to socialize. Shit, it could be a roller rink or a skate park. IT COULD BE A GYM.
ReplyDeleteYeah! Or even a game shop, diner, track, cafeteria. Whatever. So long as people show up and dig on it.
ReplyDeleteWhat's a cult of trends? Why would the actual crew be, say, a gang?
ReplyDeleteThe Hardholder is the guy that salvaged the ship, or is making payments on it, or owns it outright. The Waterbearer has control of some valuable resource. Thinking outside the box a little, it doesn't have to be water. It could be an algae based nutrient sludge, it could be the cooling baths for the ship's reactor, it could be fuel, somehow. The Maestro D runs an establishment, it could literally be anyplace people congregate (I really like the idea of a gym or a waffle shop, or especially the ship's mess hall). The Hocus could be a passenger, or they could be the reason the Hardholder got the ship in the first place, to go looking for something. The Holder may think it's physical loot while the Hocus is looking for some kind of enlightenment among the stars.
ReplyDeleteCool ideas.
ReplyDeleteI am going to bed. You guys behave.
When I say a cult of trends, I mean a trend setter so hip their followers are fanatical. Breaking their sense of taste is taboo and will result in ridicule and isolation.
ReplyDeleteI really like the idea I just came upon that the Hocus is somehow responsible for how the ship enters FTL space, like the Navigators from Dune. The Driver might be a fighter pilot, or the actual pilot of the ship (is the driver a member of the hocus' cult?), but the ship needs the Hocus to get anywhere.
ReplyDeleteThese are all pretty great.
ReplyDeleteWith some fairly subtle mods, AW can do having to pay off a mortgage IN SPACE. That shouldn't surprise me.
Have you looked at Stars Without Number? You probably have. Nevermind.
