Remind me: how do I find a new job?

  1. I think you need to find someone with the job you want, and challenge them to ritual combat.

They get to choose the weapons though.

  2. I feel like this is relevant to my interests.

  3. I went to Indeed.com and selected like 4 different things I might be qualified to do, and was prepared to BS my way in if it was good and BS-ing was allowed.

  4. I've applied to a hundred in the last week. I've had three phone screens, with three or more scheduled. I am hopeful to have an in person or two next week.

I guess the question is actually: how do I get them to pull the to trigger now?

  5. Hiring runs slow and you're doing the right things. There are specific things you can do to say, interview well, but job getting is still generally unpleasantly slow.

  6. William Nichols wait 4-5 days and then call back to check up? Not sure how else to get them to decide they love you and need you right away.

  7. Also, I know this is moving super fast. I just want it to move faster.

  8. I think you have it right. Good luck.

  9. The system constantly changes. If it's been 5 years or more since you changed jobs, it's a new set of rules... and the same was true 5 years before that....

  10. I've applied to over a hundred places. This week, I'll have something like seven phone screens. I've had at least one everyday.

I expect an in person or two next week. Wish me luck.

  11. I have weird feelings about this.
It's like I'm happy for you, but also baffled, and a little incredulous that you feel it's taking to long...

I have to balance that you filed for a hundred things in a short time, with the... With abundant nibbles you are getting in a short time... With the knowledge of friends unable to get even that for months...

It's a rollercoaster. And I do wish you luck.

  12. Matt Johnson intellectually, I know it's been less than two weeks. I know historically it has taken me months. And, I know I look fantastic on paper: masters plus ten and "lead" in my title.

Still, it feels long because I am unhappy in the day to day.

  14. Matt Johnson Because I am irrational.

  15. I'm... not going to argue, necessarily, but I am wondering what prompts that 8 hours later. :)

  16. Had a friend put my head on straight is what happened.

  17. Just scheduled an in person with a big consulting firm, and have two phone interviews today, plus a skills assessment I need to take.

That's at least four hooks out in the water. I've never had more than two at a time. I've made a spreadsheet.

Any other suggestions for how to manage this plethora of riches?
