Dearest internet

Dearest internet,

Dreamation is coming. In my more confident moments, it seems reasonable to bring both:
-- Solar Wind & Sales, my pbta hack about space pirates
-- Markets and Mages: Convocation of Malqort, my pbta hack about what adventurers do after the adventure, maybe set in a theocratic society where undead do a lot of the industry.

In my less confident moments, I assume I'm a terrible MC and no one likes me and I shouldn't even go to Dreamation because I'll just make it worse for everyone.

Do please help me figure out truth. What parts of these are true?

  1. You've got more confidence than I do - you are thinking about running games you've designed. I am supremely not-confident about running games at cons period - though I am going to try. (AFAIK I have till the 15th to tell them that...)

  2. You should definitely come to Dreamation but bringing two play tests might be overly ambitious?

  3. /me looks up Dreamation

Oh that looks totally fun. I agree with Patty, though. Playtest your strongest game of the two, but keep the second around just in case.

And if you're not sure which game is the strongest, remember the following equation. . .

Space Pirates > Everything else in the universe

  4. Shane Liebling I'm trying, for sure. My baseline is pretty OK, and I am good in front of 4-5 people. Or even 15. 50, though? 100? PANIC.

Patty Kirsch Thanks! Since you'll be there, does one of these sound more appealing?
-- Solar Wind: You're the officers onboard a pirate ship. Manage the crew, loot booty, and take prizes! Yarg!
-- Markets & Mages: You're adventurers just returned from an adventure. This is life after an adventure. Explore your connections to the everyday, look for a new adventure and, of course, pay the rent.

Kevin Farnworth Same questions as to Patty: either of those sound good?

John Hattan Heh. Noted, but you won't be at Dreamation, so your preferences are less relevant, right?

  5. I object! My preferences aren't "less relevant". My preferences are "entirely irrelevant".

  6. Oh, and Markets & Mages is a hack of The Watch. Which isn't out yet.

  7. William Nichols: You have to playtest both. If you playtest only one you won't be able to get your mind off of the other, and it will throw you off. If you playtest both you'll be able to content yourself that they each get their own time slot, and concentrate on them sequentially.

  8. Personally, space pirates are more my jam than fantasy economics.

  9. Nonsense! You will bring both. EOD

  10. ok, I submitted two games for Dreamation.

We'll see if either gets accepted. Then we'll see if anyone chooses to play them. Then we'll see if I don't freak out before hand. Then we'll see if I can MC for strangers.

oh god oh god I just submitted two games that I wrote to a major con to have strangers choose whether they'd like to play or not.

Shane Liebling ? You'd better submit your Monsterhearts proposal! I want more Monsterhearts in my life.

  11. Hey, you know what?

    Its going to be AWESOME.

In Markets and Mages, you play a badass adventurer just in from knocing over a tomb or whatever. You've got gold, but what's been happening to those you care about while you're been away?

In Solar Wind & Sales, you are an officer on a space pirate ship! You've got morale to boost, booty to steal, but how are you going to take prizes?

  12. Mostly what I am hemming and hawing about is whether to do two MH sessions or one and then two sessions of a shorter game (psi-run or the king is dead) - or should I just go gonzo and do two MH and one short?

  13. Is it MH2?

because if its MH2, you should do as much of it as you can stand.
And if it is MH1, we should do as much of it as you can stand.

I kid, of course. I am uncertain. But, it sounds like you should at least submit for one MH! You can do that today.

  14. It'll be MH2. I think if there are new players the changes in MH2 will make things a bit easier to grok. Especially vis-a-vis strings.

  15. Cool., I look forward to playing MH2 with you. :-)
