Before the accident, I never ran. I never exercised. I didn't know a spoon from a fuck. I had the luxury of not thinking of these things, and was not aware of that luxury.
I feel you. My knee has been sore for a week or two and I am mildly panicking about that, especially because I just started exercising and getting really into it. But it seems like things are getting better.
Robert Bohl If it is soreness that goes away with 2 ibuprofen, you are probably fine. If it is more than that or that interferes with your everyday life, I'd recommend chatting with an ortho.
So decision sciences is in the Porter hall part? But multiple times we walked in through doors further up, so that's the Baker hall part right? So I walked down Baker hall... halls?
Ah! So I did notice the slant. My host talked about someday rolling down it in a cart or something. Haha! I was expecting something like, in the floors...
Judd Karlman Great! I'm looking for ideas for how to keep my knee in decent shape if I don't have equipment. I've not found the writeups of what I'm doing, but here's some descriptions. The left knee is the problem knee:
1. warm up for 5 minutes on a bike or backwards on an elliptical. 2. Set a tension cord to 15 pounds resistance, hold with with hand. Bend problem knee, pull weight across. Hold for five. Repeat 30 times. 3. Set tension cord to 5 pounds, attach to right foot. Bend on problem knee, hold it steady while pulling right foot forward and straight. Hold for five. Repeat 30 times. 4. With tension cord still on right foot, knee on problem knee. Hold steady, while .. strafing? .. right foot to the right. Hold for five. Repeat 30. 5. Throw ball at a wall, catch it while bending on both knees. Repeat 30 times. 6. Use either the weight bench or literally anything else. Position feet on the bench, straight knees. Use legs to pull body off ground. Hold for five. Repeat 30.
The last two are obviously easy to do without much equipment. A ball, a wall, and a chair. Its (2), (3), and (4) that I think do most of the good work. I'm hoping to find a way to replicate that work without a tension cord.
Kristin Firth If you want serious, not just hooray CMU advice or another person to bounce ideas off of, let me know. Its a decision with long ramifications, and probably getting more perspectives is good.

ReplyDeleteNow I wonder what else I take for granted.

ReplyDeleteIbuprofen never seems to do anything for me but it doesn't interfere with anything really.
ReplyDeleteMan, talk to a doctor if ibuprofen isn't helping!
ReplyDeleteAmong other things, it reduces swelling if taken for a week or so. Which, among other things, should reduce pain from over use of healthy muscles.
If that's not happening, then stop listening to me and talk to a doctor.
No, I mean, ibuprofen never does anything to help me.
ReplyDelete(Also, sorry, didn't mean to make this about me!)
This has nothing to do with running. (Though I did go running this afternoon for the first time in awhile! Go us!)
ReplyDeleteBut... CMU floors! I didn't notice anything?
Kristin Firth You went to Baker Hall and nothing out of the ordinary?

ReplyDeletedown being the operative word, as its at like a 10 degree angle.

ReplyDeleteKristin Firth Ah, I may have over hyped, then.
ReplyDeleteDid you like the place?
Robert Bohl Could you ping in your friend who has helped you with exercises? He was at Dreamation?
ReplyDeleteKristin Firth Any idea if you want to go there for a few years?
Judd Karlman, I presume?
ReplyDeleteThat's me?

Any notion?
William Nichols it's going to be a tough decision
ReplyDeleteThis is beyond my meager physical culture capabilities. I'm sorry.

ReplyDeleteI'm really concerned about the stipend amount and affording to live there, so I'd be happy to have a separate conversation about that especially.
