Basic Moves for Full Hearts:

Basic Moves for Full Hearts:
Turn That Frown Upside Down When you cheer someone up, roll with hugs. On a 10 up, your pleas turn the situation around. • On a 7-9, they choose one: reveal a new problem, promise something they think you want, act happy. On a 6-, there’s no hug!

Bring Around an NPC When you bring an NPC around to your point of view, roll with Hugs. On a 10 up, they’ll do what you want if you give them a cookies, a hug, or a reason. • On a 7-9, the MC will tell you what it’ll take to get the NPC to do what you want. Do it and they will.

Show An Unwelcome Truth When you show someone something they don’t want to know, roll with Grumps. On a 10 up, choose one: give them the [sad] or [grump] condition. • On a 7-9, you each give a Condition to one another.

Keep Cool When you keep your cool in a scary or tense situation, roll with Grumps. On a 10 up, you keep your cool, and choose one: ask the MC a question about the situation; carry 1 forward during this scene. • On a 7-9, choose: you keep your cool; pick an option from the 10 up list but also gain the Condition [sad]

Lash Out Physically When you lash out physically, roll with Fiery. On a 10 up, you give them a condition and choose one: add another condition; they need to Keep Cool before they can retaliate (during this scene). • On a 7-9, you give them a condition but choose 1: they give you a condition, or you become your Meanest Self.

Run Away When you run away from a problem or situation, roll with Fiery. On a 10 up, you get away, and end up in a safe place. On a 7-9, you get away, but choose one: you cause a big scene; you run directly into something worse.

Think Deeply When you gaze at the audience and think about something deeply, roll with Feels. On a successful roll, you get flashbacks helping you understand the situation. On a 10 up, choose two: the visions are lucid and detailed; the visions show you what you must do, and you carry 1 forward to doing it; the visions cure you, removing a Condition. • On a 7-9, choose one: the visions are confusing and alarming; the visions are lucid and detailed but they leave you with the Condition grumpy.

  1. This'd be a Monster Hearts hack. The stats are:
    Hugs (replaces Hot)
    Grumps (replaces Cold)
    Fiery (replaces Volatile)
    Feels (replaces Dark)

    Because why wouldn't they be?

  2. as in super soakers. That's the stat name I'm least pleased with.

  3. Spazz is delightfully 90, but ableist. Still, its closer.

  4. Playbooks (Main Stat, obvious characters are obvious)
The Parent (Hugs, played by JD/dad tanner)
The Cousin (Feels, played by Steph/Jesse)
The Best Friend (Soakers, played by Joey/Kimmy)

The Eldest (Fiery, played by JD / the teenage boy)
The Middle (Grumps, played by Steph / the the 8 year old boy)
The Youngest (Hugs, Olsen twins / whatever the babies name is)

  5. Can I give you permission as someone with ADD? I suppose not.

Going to the thesaurus and a little of my brain: Buoyant, effusive, capricious, erratic, fighty, fierce, passionate...

    Ooh, fiery!

  6. Genders for the playbooks?

This is where I'm going to get into trouble: Full house is heteronormative. The three Adults are the same gender, and the three kids should be the same gender. I feel like the adults don't have to be a different genders from the kids, but ....

Would it make sense for The Adult to choose a gender, and for the gender expression of every other character to be keyed off that one?

  7. What about:

Boy, concealing, girl, man, non-conforming, woman?

  8. Maybe even some more options, Robert Bohl . I like the idea of adult versus kiddo gender identities. I think the Adults all have to be the same gender, and the kiddoes as well.

  9. I forgot. You're a better reader of the show than me.

So what about [gender choice based on whether people who present as male or female are the adults], nonconforming as gender options, per character.

Then individuals can describe how they don't conform within their conception of what works for the era and genre.

    Gender is complicated, right?

  10. Just make it a step.  "Adults collectively pick a gender they all identify as, and announce it.  Kids collectively pick a different gender that they all identify as."

  11. Josh Roby Maybe so!

I kind of want a decision made one person of the adult generation, and one made by one person of the kid generation. I'm fine with reducing the agency of the Cousin and Best Friend, but do not want to erase gender options.

Would it work to do something like:
    The Parent
Gender: Standard fairly long AW list, with perhaps some more options?

    The Cousin
Gender: Same as The Parent, or nonconforming

    for the kids:
    The Youngest
Assigned Gender: boy, girl, a few others.

    The Eldest:
Assigned Gender: Same as The Youbgest, or nonconforming.

I am certain this is problematic in ways I'm don't see. Do you see ones I don't?

  12. I'd drop the "or nonconforming" bit. It's outside your premise and if players really want it, they'll do it without your permission. ;)

I rather like having the kids choose their assigned gender.
