I am uncertain: How much human time and energy and natural resources do we spend ensuring human time and energy and natural resources are directed the way Capital wants them to be?

That is, how much is spent on:
-- Protecting money
-- Protecting assets
-- Moving natural resources to where rich people want them to be
-- Defending "what's ours" from "all those other people"
-- Ensuring employees track enough time.
-- Ensuring employees bill time correctly.
-- Ensuring employees are paid on time and just enough.
-- The maintaining of a de facto under class who cannot obtain economic security.

I think the answer is: a lot more than we think.

  1. LOts and Lots. That's what my wife does (as an accounting person) every day of her work week. And that is what she had done in every job she has held, really for the past 30 years or so. Sometimes in the Private sector, sometimes in the non-profit sector but pretty much that. And similar things are done across the country on various levels by millions of people. Corporate, Government, Health Care, Academic, Charitable, Finance, etc all have their numerous Accountants, Bookkeepers, Clerks, Administrators, Managers etc.

  2. More than we spend challenging that system, or even dreaming of an alternative to that system.

  3. And yes: I am fairly sure all jobs done on behalf of the capitalist class are essentially this.

  4. Note: I am pretty sure the answer is "essentially all labor spent for capitalism".

That is: Whether a job is explicitely about keeping people focused, keeping the money where they want it, and keeping the oil flowing, it's about moving money for Capital.
