Here's a list of traitors: Robert E. Lee, Jefferson Davis, Stonewall Jackson, J.E.B. Stuart, Nathan Bedford Forrest, James Longstreet, Braxton Bragg, George Pickett, Bloody Bill Anderson, Albert Sidney Johnston, John Mosby, P.G.T. Beauregard, A.P. Hill, Richard Ewell, Joseph Johnston, Jubal Early, Kirby Smith, John Bell Hood, Barnard Bee, Lewis Armistead, Porter Alexander.
It's weird. Some people in my adopted state seem to think they were "patriots", "generals", or one may even be called a "President". Nope.
Traitors & Terrorists all.
I find it weird that, between here and the Pentagon, the highway is named after one of these traitors. At a guess, that's so the actual American generals in the pentagon know who the enemy is, but I'm never sure if that's what they were thinking in Richmond.

Oh, and, of these: These traitors didn't even have the courage to acknowledge that they are traitors, hiding instead behind a veneer of claims to the otherwise.
ReplyDeleteIn my book, that puts them somewhere way behind Benedict Arnold, and up there with Brutus.
And, should there be justice in the universe, suffering a similar fate. I doubt there is, so the best we can do is to ensure their names are synonymous with fatuous racist rapist traitorous cowards.
Also this dickbag. Just adding him because he's my great^6 uncle/grandfather/something.

Agreed: That guy is a cowardly racist dickbag traitor.
ReplyDeleteHey, don't talk about Uncle Rhett like that :)
ReplyDeleteI think the point of the post is I can talk about those traitors, and it shoudln't affect us as much.
ReplyDeleteY'know who were also just defending their sense of the limits of US federal sovereignty? The redcoats. Where the heck is my Cornwallis memorial statue? His performance at the Battle of Camden was exemplary!
ReplyDeleteWe need a real Benedict Arnold memorial... not that one with just his leg and not even his name on it! Be proud of your traitors!
ReplyDeleteOh, here's a couple others: Trump & Sessions
ReplyDeleteAlso, Tony Lower-Basch? Those guys fought using rules of war, and only infrequently attacked civilians. They were much more virtuous than the terrorists listed above.
ReplyDeleteLongstreet is a more complex figure, and an interesting one. After the war he embraced reconstruction and supported full civil rights for blacks. He also led New Orleans' black militia in battle against white supremacist paramilitaries.
ReplyDeleteI believe you, Sam Zeitlin. And today I am finding it difficult to care about the complexities.
