Nutty idea.
Apocalypse world set RIGHT NOW.
The PCs and most everyone they interact with have fallen out of society. Maybe that's illness, maybe it is homelessness.
I'm not sure this would take any having at all. You maybe need a front of society intact, but I think everything else works.
Thoughts?

Drew Askew explicitly says that, unlike in normal AW where the Apocalypse happens everywhere more or less at once, the Apocalypse is uneven, complete in some places and nearly absent in others. I think the others are described as "gated communities."
ReplyDeleteIn AW, the PCs don't really have access to any functional infrastructure they don't maintain themselves.
Now, there's plenty nearby, but it's not available for the taking. Why? Police -- police who fight the players, rather than protecting them -- is an obvious answer. Are there others?
This could be really gritty. In a hard and disturbing sense.
It might benefit, at least the first time, with an explicit, measurable distinction that throws people out of society -- maybe there's a disfiguring plague, and all the "nice people" call in quarantine cops whenever you try to hit the affluent districts.
Hot. Yes. I adore the idea of a reason that isn't something in our modern world
ReplyDeleteMaybe it's just homeless folk?
ReplyDeletepeople have drifted in from congruent realities, but just don't have enough to make a go of it here. (srry, my wrist is fuxxrd, typing hurts). some have it real bad can't absorb the right (and left) proteins (lol c wat i did there?). some have it sorta bad - speak languages that are congruent to but not the same as their homeverses....
ReplyDeleteYeah, that game is called Dream Askew. ;)
ReplyDeleteCool ideas!
ReplyDeleteAnd agreed, Dream Askew does this. I know, but I'm curious how much skew can be built in without hacking.
