I'd ask if time passed between those two, but you can't check the time on your phone because the battery is dead.
If you tried to download it with weak wifi or cell signal that would kill a battery. Also might want to check out the setting on the app and see if it is trying to connect to the internet to play with others.
Of relevant note: I was standing in the hallway for an unknown amount of time, staring at my phone because the AI was almost good.
