This is not very good science:

This is not very good science:
-- The Soylent 2.0 arrived 7 days ago.
-- I've brought Soylent to work 3 times. Once this week, I brought real food and once I had to buy food out.
-- Over the last 7 days, I've lost 2.8 pounds. This is my largest weekly decrease sense November.
-- I've eaten treats and snacks and drank beer in the last week.

Therefore, clearly this is working.

  1. Yeah but 7 days might just be your body adjusting to something new. Give it a month and see what happens. You might be on to something good, but it also might just be a blip.

  2. One good reason it is not very good science, Rocio Goodey

  3. I was going to add that as an adendum but I didn't want to look too dickish, as I was already raining on your parade.

  4. Yeah. I know this is shit science.

It is also promising, and merits further consideration.

the use of soylent as a supplement when I don't have a real meal does one thing important: it substitutes a known (and relatively healthy) option for an unknown and probably unhealthy option, like eating pizza.

  5. The theoretically simple solution is to make that your only variable for X time frame to see if it's actually having an effect. For all purposes, I do hope it is your new food that is giving you positive results.

  6. Yeah. I've tried not to modify too much else this week. I did the same things, I ate (mostly) the same times and places out.

Hell, I ate a crapload of heath snacks at game night last night.

But, the problem with that is this isn't blind: I know what I'm measuring and why. The increased awareness could also have an affect.

  7. Schrodinger's cat knows you're looking in the box. It gives you the finger.

  8. So, like - what made you decide soylent is a better product than slim-fast? Given that neither product is nutritionist recommended.

  9. Marketing. :-)

Also, Soylent is mostly grains and sounds like SCIENCE.

  10. Ah. So an emotional, not rational, decision. Mmkay.

  11. Most are. This time I'm just honest about it.

While visiting with a friend, he handed us a package of his soylent 1.5 We'd been meaning to try it, so took it home. It was non-terrible, and cheap. So, we bought some soylent 2.0 to use for work lunches.

And for that it has been useful.

  12. I'm starting my second month of Soylent 1.5, also for work lunches and breakfast at work. I've also noticed weight loss. I suspect that this is partly due to Soylent, but I'm sure my body will adjust soon enough.
