  8. My inner skeptic wonders where this philosophy comes down on the guy who says “our weekly pickup game doesn’t need a policy about harassment and abuse... we should just be nice to each other!”

    The philosophy’s high-minded intent is obviously in opposition, but the actual principles being voiced seem like they would support the person advocating for less rules, less accountability.

    It’s quite possible that I’m just grouchy from exposure to the principles done wrong, though.

Tony Lower-Basch over, not instead of; individuals and interactions over processes and tools, not instead of; you don't do away with processes and tools (like an anti-harassment policy), but stress that what matters first is the people. So, don't document for the sake of documenting, document because it is relevant to getting out a new release, or for the safety of the group.

  12. So ... the person who says "I think that collaborating to get along should be valued more than negotiating some contract of acceptable behavior" can't reference this set of principles to back their argument?
