I've been work travelling a lot.
I am seeking other ideas and impressions on if this makes sense. This is a whole new thing for me.
I just got:
-- 4 amazon basics packing cubes. These are new to me.
-- a replacement bag: a relatively large shoulder messenger bag
-- a new laptop carrying bag, also messenger style.
Goal 1: When travelling, get the laptop and packing cubes into the new bag.
Goal 2: Be able to pack for trips in the normal course of doing laundry, such that for a trip all I do is grab packing cubes and go.
I will probably not take the laptop carrying bag when travelling, but if it fits together, then all the better.
I'm thinking to keep the packing cubes filled, such like:
First night cube: 2 undies, 1 under shirt, 1 overshirt, socks.
Second night cube: Jeans, 2 undies, 1 under shirt, 1 overshirt, socks
Second night cube: jamjams & exercise gear, including shoes for the purpose.
Fourth cube, for third nights: same as the first cube.
My over-shirts are all LL Bean shirts; I'm essentially in tech, and can get away without wearing oxfords. (hooray).
That gets me through three night excursions without thinking too hard about it.
Does this make sense?

It does. Packing cubes are, in my experience, a great defense against packing-paralysis. I hope you'll find many unexpected benefits from them!
