I am bad at internet.

I am bad at internet.

just received Merry Christmas email from Game Designer's Workshop through DriveThru.

Email says a product has a special low low price of $0.00, but clicking in shows a price of many more dollars than zero.

How did I internet wrong?

  3. Tony Lower-Basch Its DriveThru and GDW. It is much easier for me to believe incompetence -- mine or theirs -- than malfeasance.

  4. Did they say "limited quantities" in the flyer they sent you?

Because if they didn't, it's not a question of intent.

  5. Is incompetence a defense -- morally or legally -- against claims of bait and switch?

    I don't know! I really don't. Legally especially.

Morally, I think it is. That is, to do so because you internet badwrong is different than to do so with the intention of defauding. So it feels to me.

  6. Yeah, I agree with you, in fact.

But you're sitting here beating yourself up (or so I perceive) for having been pulled in by what is, objectively, a bait and switch, even if an accidental one.

So, y'know, don't beat yourself up ... it's a tactic so powerful that it is outlawed because of how unfairly persuasive it is. It's no surprise that it pulled you in.

  7. If that's their defense, then they better fix the issue when you contact them and ask.

  8. Doesn't seem to be a contact us on DrivEThru that goes to the publisher. And they don't seem to have much of a web presence.

And yet, today of all days is the day I'd want Traveller deck plans. Because that's the sort of nerding I am right now.

The beating myself up, Tony Lower-Basch , was an intentional coming from a place of humility and assuming I'd click buttons wrong. Which seemed wise given chipotle for lunch -- my brain isn't quite at 100%.

But, yeah, it looks like they messed up somewhere.

  11. Yeah. Its just also across several dozen files, rather than being a single pdf. Ah well, not like I need much more than a free trader.

  12. This is corrective action: the file is now maybe free for everyone until the end of the year.
