Where's the fucking sun?

Where's the fucking sun?

I noticed over the last few days I've been humming Better Son / Daughter by Rilo Kiley. It's one of these fighting depression songs.

And, to be clear: I'm not depressed. Not, like, DEPRESSED. I just get sad when there's no sun. And I know it'll pass.

I'm not sleeping super great. My job involves a whole lot of high-touch happiness, and that's especially draining this time of year. Remember: professional MC, more or less.

So, I'm now playing depression fighting songs while I work from home.

Got any suggestions?

  1. This album kicks so much ass you won't be able to think of anything else but shooting aliens: blood-music.bandcamp.com - Invaders, by Hollywood Burns

  2. That reminds me! I need my space music.

::finds DVD, has nothing in the house that will spin a disk::

  3. Mine are Evanescence and Linkin Park, but YMMV.
Note to self: Find box with meds and take some vitamin D.

  4. The albums Chronologie by Jean Michelle Jarre and The Songs of Distant Earth by Mike Oldfield are both quite spacey and both cheered me up the other day.

  5. Anything by Morcheeba, Part of the Process is probably my favourite.

A strong contender for most uplifting song ever though, has to be One Perfect Sunrise by Orbital.

  6. Do you find happy stuff or sad stuff better for depression usually? (I prefer sad stuff, weirdly, but stuff that is sad in ways that don't actually push my past history buttons.)

  7. (And for the record, mild seasonal depression is still depression. I'm glad to hear that it's still in the range you are confident you can self manage though. :)

  8. William Nichols I hear that. I had to buy a USB Blu-ray drive for my laptop workstation!

  9. Eva Schiffer Self-managing often involves knowing what I can give up, drinking but not quite too much, and making sure I see people.

Most of that's healthy. But I haven't run on a work day in a week.
