There are a few items in the Constitution that were created for the preservation of slavery, and the supremacy of Virginia.
Those are:
-- the three fifth compromise
-- the electoral college
-- the second amendment.
We get rid of the first. It is well past time we get rid of the other two.

I thought the 2nd amendment was created to keep the federal government from disarming state militias, no? How does it link to slavery and Virginia?
ReplyDeleteThat's a common misconception, spread as a lie by the NRA. The 2nd amendment exists so white people can shoot black people. Period.
ReplyDeleteThe lie by the NRA is that it guarantees the right to own guns for individual self defense. White people were already allowed to (and did) own guns prior to the 2nd Amendment.
ReplyDeleteThere is quite a bit in the Constitution that is pro-slavery, but I'm not convinced that the 2nd Amendment was written for the preservation of slavery. Can you point me to something that makes your case?
Nah. If you really want to, go read any of the papers that were written pro the 2nd amendment. It's all real obvious. Feel free. Have fun!
ReplyDeleteYou wouldn't believe me anyway. :-)
I have read papers about it and I've been searching and reading about it since you posted. I have found a lot written about attempts to twist the 2nd Amendment to keep guns out of the hands of black people. I only found one paper that makes your argument, but I found it by way of Justice Stevens debunking it.
ReplyDeleteI have been wrong about stuff more than I've been right in my life. This is the first time that I ever heard the 2nd Amendment was written to preserve slavery. I'm open to being wrong here, but I need to see it. It's not that I don't believe you, it's just not as obvious to me as it is to you.
Anyway, I think the Electoral College is racist and should be dumped. The Second Amendment can go too because, among other reasons, it's become racist, post ratification.
Here's a reasonable place to start: theatlantic.com - The Atlantic
ReplyDeleteI've been watching movies tonight and drinking. I hope we can discuss this tomorrow, especially if the Atlantic article does not tickle you.
