is this politician liberal or conservative?

is this politician liberal or conservative?
- Favors increased defense spending
- against government waste and corruption
- federal prosecutor best known for anti-terrorism work
- favors reduced government spending on prisons
- references The Lord (Jesus, presumably) in reference to his formative years

So, whatcha think? Also, can you identify the politician?

  1. Ah, what a lovely assumption-laden phrase ‘terrorism’ can be. Yeah, I know who you’re talking about. Seems like a ‘moderate, middle-of-the-road guy,’ maybe some sort of ‘economic populist.’

  2. I’m pretty sure I know who you’re talking about, but I also see your point: other than “favors reduced government spending on prisons” those all sound like planks of the republican platform...although your third point does involve an in-group/our-group cheat.

All I can say is a paraphrase of an old saying — “If you’re from New York, you’re Jewish even if you’re goyish. If you’re from Pennsylvania, you’re goyish even if you’re Jewish.” Regional politics provide significant shifts to the terms of national politics.

  3. Tony Lower-Basch What else do we call people who blow up churches other than "terrorist"? Sounds like the right word to me!

Jesse Cox Also, severe cherry picking. Like, omg I am almost lying.

  4. Your response to Tony gave it away for me, I think. You definitely cherry-picked issues, if it's the person I think it is. But I just looked at his platform, and now I'm second-guessing myself.

Does "reduced government spending on prisons" mean privatizing them, introducing punitive budget cuts, or putting fewer people in prison?
