I'm a king or something, responsible for a magical kingdom.

I'm a king or something, responsible for a magical kingdom.

Like D&D. There are even adventurers wandering around. Probably some dread necromancer over the horizon, recruiting for the undead legion. Dragons fly and breathe flame.

I have a ring that symbolizes my power, and is magic.

What does my magic ring do? What other magical items make my life easier?

  1. It’s the Ring of Truth. By it’s magic, no one who kisses the ring may speak falsely to you for a short span, a minute or two at most. If they do, they will be overcome with a fit of coughing, as if the ring were lodged in their throat, for so long as they still attempt to speak the lie...or until its fleeting enchantment fades.

What unusual use do you put this ring to?

    Who knows the ring’s power?

  2. The ring puts your outside of causality. Things that happen to you simply don't. This makes you functionally immortal, but you also miss a lot of the social maneuvering happening at court.

  3. ...controls the other, lesser rings of power, and lets you influence the bearers of those rings.

Look, it would just be irresponsible to create rings of phenomenal power without some kind of safeguard. There’s no telling what a group of nine human monarchs would get up to! Look at the problems that even one witch-king can cause.

  4. Jesse Cox Everyone knows; I make it well known. People talk about it, and exaggerate its real power. It is said any promise given after kissing the Ring of Truth is binding, and that you cannot violate what you say.

I use it to do weddings. And divorces.

  5. Aaron Griffin So there is one Immortal, and it is me. Am I revered like a god?

  6. Brandes Stoddard Well, suuuuuure, someone controls my ring. But what does mine do?

  7. William Nichols by some, yes. Others, especially those at court, think of you as a maroon with a magic ring.

  8. The Ring of Ruling gives you very localized telepathy. Very localized. You can only read your own thoughts, but you can read them clearly.

You have a suspicion that this ring was, in fact, a factory reject from the earlier ages of Great Magick, but it has helped you earn a spectacular (and deserved) reputation for wisdom and caring but firm justice.

  9. It's a ring of disguise so that you look like the actual king used to.

A ring of reading. Let's you read all those reports and invites and memos and declarations and telegraphs and war plans and on and on...

The Ring of the Eighth Sphere. Three times per day you can ask it a yes/no question and it will give you a vague answer. Useful for economics, spies, infidelities, great mysteries of the universe and parenting teenagers.

  10. None may approach you with intent to murder you? This makes council meetings a bit difficult...

  11. Brian Ashford I love the idea that the ring of reading just ..,.. let's you read. Like, enough so you can read a novel in a couple of days.
