Supergirl: WHAT DID I MISS IN EPISODE 13?

Supergirl: WHAT DID I MISS IN EPISODE 13?

I watched 12 on the plane, now I am watching 14 and WTF!

This is public, and the comments WILL contains spoilers.

  1. Thirteen was pretty seriously not an episode to miss.

The other kryptonians get up to an attack while Kara is out of commission, which means the DEO dealing with them sans Supergirl.

That, in turn, means agents making hard choices about whether they can afford non-lethal responses. Soldier type choices. Choices of which Supergirl distinctly does not approve.

Wasn't there a "what happened last episode" at the start of 14?

  2. There was a "Here's the last 13 episodes", sure, but not a lot specifically on 13.

Looks like hulu doesn't have 13 anymore, or it is on H+. Netflix doesn't have it. I could get it for $2 on Amazon in SD, which is probably what I will do.

Or, I'll skip it because i hate paying for media. And I only discovered Supergirl for reals on a plane. I'd been wanting to watch it for a while.

I am very glad that it is you, Tony Lower-Basch , who told me what I missed. Because reasons.

  3. Pretty sure you will get filled in with increasing detail as the repercussions play out through episodes 14, 15, and 16, at the very least.  So you can also skip the episode and piece it together from how the various characters respond to events.

  4. So, I'm clever enough to fill it? Or, rather, the writers are good enough such that one missed episode doesn't ruin the show? Good!

  5. I can't seem to find it on Hulu. They've got links to CBS.com.

  6. Bought on Amazon, watching now. Please, no spoilers.

I adore how supergirl plays into its themes. That it does some standard episodes "loss of powers", "alien makes you think you're on krypton", etc. Then it fucks with them in a delightful way. This show is (almost) exactly what I want.

  7. "You'll love this, it's a classic! Cat stuck in a tree!"

  8. Precisely, Tony Lower-Basch ! It was named fluffy!

  9. The show consistently outweighs its "I know I want X and you didn't do it" penalty with its "I had no idea how much I wanted Y until you did it" score.

  10. I do dislike how much the mom and aunt look alike. Tall, thin, symmetrical brunettes? Glad they gave one a white stripe of hair -- i very much use hair to know who is who.

  11. Well, they're in-fiction twins, played by the same actress.

  12. The things one misses while watching on a plane. Anyway, I still find it hard to tell them apart.

  13. Also, Cat wanting to fire Kara when she thinks she's supergirl? Makes no sense.

Here's how it should have gone:
Cat: I'm pretty sure you are supergirl.
    Kara: Nope!
Cat: I've known all along ... now you've made it obvious. You shouldn't be bringing lattes or anything else, because you need to be supergirl.
Kara: But ... I need to be here. I love being here. It keeps me grounded.
Cat: Fine. I'm tripling your salary. Come and go as you please. Save the world.
    Kara: I'm ... not ... supergirl...
Cat: Fine, but you're still getting triple your salary.
    Kara: ok ...

Firing supergirl is the least moral possible action.

  14. "I've known pain, but I've also known love and the people here are my family. I may have been born on Krypton, but I choose earth. These people are my family, and i will protect it until my last breath."

I'm covered in goose bumps.  I've heard a version of that speech from The Doctor, but his was much more time lordy, putting himself above simple humanity.

But this? This is her choosing to be one of us. Deciding to not longer identify with her aunt or the world she knew, and instead with simple, stupid humans. Delightful.

  15. MM: Kiera never stopped believing Astra could be saved. That's the difference between soldiers and heros.
Sister: Sir, why did you lie to Kiera?
    MM: Because you're her hero.

Goddamn. Both a fantasticly useful definition of a hero and what sets them apart, and hammering home the relationship. So good.
