Mickey Schulz about that: ask me in a month. Right now, all I know is it wasn't about trade negotiations. I can say I enjoyed it, I cannot surreal to its objective quality. I am unable to have sufficient emotional distance because my friend is back!
As i recall, there was a lot of hype around the release of the first prequel too. I though it was well-structured as a mythology (all that parallel structure) that would be poor structure if you were viewing it in a different light.
Sarah Perry-Shipp that hype is precisely why I know I can't be objective. Laser swords, super weapons, and people who live each other sounds like star wars.....
I just wish we could love Force Awakens without needing to take a shit on the prequels. A lot of people actually enjoyed them, especially children who were just getting into Star Wars for the first time, and the violent, vitriolic hatred spewed at the prequels and anyone who likes them turns people off to the fandom who would otherwise love sharing a thing we love with them.
Not happy about the "Gungan genocide" line. Loving and hating media and fictional worlds and characters is all good, but forcing so much violence into our relationship with them? That said, I've enjoyed the movie, and am happy that SW fandom feels re-united with the brand (despite lots of fears after the Disney deal).
Heh. Still haven't seen it yet, but lots of people whose opinions I respect have reported favorably.
