In an apocalypse World game, the GM has charged me with drawing my hard hold.

In an apocalypse World game, the GM has charged me with drawing my hard hold. This is an old-west themed game -- the only person with a car is the Driver, everyone else uses horses. The hold is in Yucca mountain -- we use glowing uranium as ammunition, and as a light source.

When i first met the brainer, I wound up shooting him. And now there are cultists inspired by the brainer in my hold.

I'm planning to draw maps and leave blanks.

But, the two questions:
1. I am terrible at all forms of drawing. What's an easy way to do this?
2. What things should be in the hard hold? We know there's an inn and a stables. There really should be an armory. What else do we need in a township of about 100?

You tell me, internet.

  1. See if you can find a map or blueprint of a mine and use/edit that.

  4. Thanks, everyone!

Cameron Mount is that actually yucca mountain?
Misha B Good ideas, all. I would never have thought of a church.
Brandes Stoddard I shall look into it!
    Dianne Harris opened!
    David Rothfeder Like Dwarf Fortress?

Oooh, there was a mine/fortress in Europe we visited -- completely underground. Maybe I use that as inspiration. Long hallways, murder holes, etc.

  5. Just from what I remember of westerns the church sometimes doubled as the schoolhouse. (there was always a preacher of some sort)

  8. Update: I'm drawing! Not on graph paper, and intentionally not giving any straight lines. I'm using my weaknesses to my advantage to try to point out the lines aren't well defined, and nothing is in good repair.

In my vision, we're in something like an old norad compound. So, imagine Stargate, but nothing works and everything is for shit. And there's a dangerous mine where we get the heavy radioactive crap to make our bullets.

Which means i can have multiple levels.

First level, exterior: farm lands outside the main hold, along with a guard station and some stables. There's a ramp into the interior. Can it be closed? I don't know yet.

First level, interior: a road, feed and stables, an inn, a store, the church/ town hall, water supplies, the distillery, and an armory. This is the public facing level, with a couple of guard. There's stairs in the back.

Second level: houses. Stairs in the front and the back of the floor, with a nursury when you first walk in. I draw about 20 "houses", which're shacks or leftover rooms or just cubicals.

level third, secured things: the big armory, storage, food and water.

There's room left on every floor for additions, and its easy to add other floors. I've left a lot of blanks.
