What a strange incentive system: punishing behavior (in this case, renting hotel rooms) that you want to see.

Weird.

DREAMATION Hotel Parking Update:
Folks,

The policy for parking at the hotel has changed.
If you are staying as a guest at the hotel, there is a $10/night parking feed.

If you are not staying at the hotel (ie: your name is not on a hotel room), the front desk will continue to validate your parking for free, as they have always done.

  1. This thread should be a good place to complain; while public, it isn't, say, directly to our hosts -- who, I am certain, have no control over this and dislike it as well.

  2. I suppose if you know you're going to be at 100% occupancy in the rooms, this may make sense. That seems odd.

  3. This seems to contradict the hotel website:
    Day parking rates:
Self-parking: Complimentary for all hotel guests and visitors dinning in our venues (hourly rates will apply to all non-hotel guests)
Valet parking: $15+ tax per day

  4. I can;'t help but wonder if what they MEAN is that "Guests will be valet parked at $10 a day, but non Guests will continue at the standard $15 rate". It just kind of feels like someone mixed up the rates or something. It might actually be worth complaining (or at least asking) directly to the people involved to clarify the discrepancy.

  5. Feel free; that's not a fight I want to pick with Avie and Vinnie.

  6. Oh, no no, now that I look at it I see.

For hotel guests and people who eat in one of their venues self parking is FREE during the day. If you do not EAT there and are not a guest then there is an hourly parking charge (unspecified). If you leave your car over night it is a flat $15. It's unclear if that is hourly+$15 for over nighting, but the over night fee being listed seperately seems to imply it is.

EWhat the Dremation update is saying is that hotel guests only have to pay $10 for the overnight stay. So by being a guest you are getting a $5 break on the overnight fee and not paying anything during the day. It also implies that being a con attendee would count as "dining at a venue" for the break on daytime parking costs.

(still not sure why you say "fight", it would be a simple clarification question at most...)

  7. Eh, is it really? It's an hourly lot with an additional charge for overnight parking. Which isn't an unusual model for pay lots. By being a guests of the hotel or using their venues (i.e. spending money there) they will validate your day parking but not the overnight parking fees. So con attendees will get their day parking validated. Additionally, the Dremation folks got a $5 discount on the overnight parking for attendees staying at the hotel shrug

  8. That notice only makes sense if you're 100% familiar with the existing policy.
